Supervisor Spotlight

Kelsey Sisler | Student Affairs Communication Programs Manager

In nominating his boss for Supervisor Spotlight, Luc Jones said, “Kelsey is known as the reliable one. She creates opportunities for students and fosters safe spaces for peers. Her positivity is infectious and spreads like wildfire throughout Student Affairs.” We asked Kelsey to tell her story in her own words.

  1. Describe your job/responsibilities at ACC:
Student Affairs Communication focuses on internal audiences—including new and current students as well as Student Affairs staff—and provides services such as communication and marketing consultation, graphic design, digital promotion, video production, event coverage, and website support. As a manager, I oversee our service request intake process, review deliverables for quality, and ensure all communications align with the goals of Student Affairs and the college. I also support my team of five by providing professional development opportunities, day-to-day guidance, and encouragement.
  1. How long have you been at ACC?
I’ve been at ACC for over 5 and a half years. I started at ACC as a Student Life Coordinator and moved to Student Affairs Communications in 2021!
  2. What first sparked your interest in communications, and how did that path lead you to higher education?
I’ve always loved connecting with others and using communication to make a positive impact. After studying at Texas State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I started my career in public relations but felt drawn to work with more purpose. Reflecting on my favorite jobs in college—like being an RA and orientation leader—I realized how much I loved working in higher education and supporting students. That led me to ACC, where I get to blend my passion for education and communication on the amazing SA Comms team. 💜
  3. Your team nominated you for this recognition. What do YOU think makes a good supervisor?
My team is so encouraging, and I am honored that they nominated me for this recognition. (Special shoutout to Luc – you help me grow into a better leader every day!) I know I am not perfect, but I believe that showing up authentically, showing genuine care, and being a good listener go a long way when leading a team. I may not always have the right answer, but I’m always ready to roll up my sleeves and work alongside my team to reach our goals.
  4. ACC is on the cusp of some big changes. What’s the most important thing you can do to support your team through the changes?
Positivity and empathy are two of my top CliftonStrengths, and I’m leaning into both during this time of uncertainty. Supporting my team means truly listening to their perspectives and creating space for honest conversations. And even during change, there’s always a reason to be grateful and to keep smiling.
  5. If you could trade places with anyone at ACC, who would it be and why?
I would love to experience a day in the life working in the chancellor’s office! I am a big Russell fan and would jump at the chance to learn from his leadership style and get a front-row seat to the big decisions.
  1. When you’re not at work, what’s your favorite thing to do?
I have a 2.5-year-old who occupies 99% of my time outside the office, and I wouldn’t have it any other way – I love my family! I also love to travel, spend time with friends, and try new restaurants/coffee shops around Austin.
