The cost of home ownership in Austin is out-of-reach for a vast majority of ACC employees. But Habitat for Humanity is offering an option that many may find appealing.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that has been building homes for low-income people around the world for nearly 50 years. In Austin, the organization has shifted its model a bit to meet local needs. Instead of single-family homes, Habitat is focusing on multi-family developments to get more people qualified and into a home of their own.
Habitat is currently selling units in Persimmon Point, a newly built community of flats and townhomes in southeast Austin. Eligibility requirements are very. A family of four, for example, can make as much as $97,800 (80 percent of Median Family Income as set by HUD) to be eligible for a 3-bedroom unit costing $250,000. They need to be a first-time home buyer with a credit score of 620 or higher. ACC partner UFCU will also attend the session to discuss mortgage options.
