Austin Community College encourages open communication and early resolution of workplace concerns. We know that conflicts and misunderstandings can happen. The College provides several ways to resolve issues informally or formally, depending on what’s most appropriate.

Start with Communication
Many workplace issues can be resolved through open and respectful conversation.
If you feel comfortable, begin by discussing your concern with:
- The person directly involved, or
- Your immediate supervisor
When you have this conversation:
- Focus on specific facts and behaviors.
- Listen actively and seek mutual understanding.
- Keep notes for your own records.
- If needed, follow up in writing to confirm next steps.
Where to go from here
If your issue isn’t resolved through direct discussion, but you’re not ready to file a grievance, drop your concern here. Human Resources will help you determine the best path to resolution.
Your other options
- Ombudsperson: For private, informal conflict resolution or coaching.
- Filing a grievance: A formal request to the Employee Relations Officer to resolve a workplace concern that does not involve an allegation of discrimination based on a protected class.
- Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance (OEOC): For issues involving discrimination, harassment, or retaliation.
