DLIWG Update – 07/22/25

Dear Dr. Scott,

Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of our distributed instructional leadership framework. On behalf of the Distributed Leadership Implementation Work Group (DLIWG),  we are pleased to share our initial set of recommendations for supporting the implementation of the Department Chair Task Force’s work, shaped by the Instructional Leadership Team’s thoughtful feedback and insights.

These recommendations are intended as an actionable starting point – focused on role clarity, equitable LEH allocations, and sustainable leadership structures – to help guide implementation beginning in fall 2025 and into spring 2026. We hope this document reflects both alignment with our shared goals and a practical step forward in building a more consistent and transparent model of instructional leadership.

With that said,we want to recognize the DLIWG members for their deep engagement and critical contributions throughout this process. Their collaborative spirit and commitment to the success of this work have been instrumental in shaping recommendations that are both grounded in consistency of practice and responsiveness to unique departmental circumstances.

With your approval, we would like to begin drafting a communication to faculty and current department chairs that shares the progress made to date, and – importantly – announces the additional 3 LEH for AY26 as a first step in our broader implementation plan. This early communication would help build understanding, transparency, and momentum as we move forward.  In parallel, the DLIWG will continue refining related components – such as Assistant Department Chair structures and evaluation rubrics – through the fall semester. We anticipate sharing a follow-up set of recommendations after the start of the fall 2025 term, particularly in support of the Spring 2026 implementation milestones.

Thank you for your ongoing support.  We look forward to your thoughts and feedback, and to continuing the important work ahead.

Take good care,

Beth & Brandon
DLIWG Co-Chairs
