The temporary project pool consists of the aggregate LEH remaining after use of Assistant Department Chair (ADC) release has been confirmed by each department across a School*.
Temporary Project Pool release time:
- Can only be used for timebound projects for which there is alignment and scale (i.e., projects that can be completed in one academic year)
- Must be for work outside the scope of a standard ADC role
- Should be for no fewer than one course and no more than a two-course release, equating to 6 LEH, and up to 10.5 LEH (5.25 LEH world) maximum, per academic year. Allocation of course release proposed at a rate of fewer than one course or more than two courses per year will be evaluated as part of this process.
- TPP release time is considered a reduction in teaching and student success responsibilities, usually for the purpose of accepting a special assignment, or special/additional duties not expected of most faculty. Release time does not release a faculty member from fulfilling their obligations to innovate and/or serve the department and college or from their on-campus obligations and responsibilities.
TPP requests should be associated with a specific deliverable, and the dean is responsible for reviewing the deliverable once completed. Requests for release time using the TPP are submitted by the department chair to the dean for dean-level approval.
Justification submitted by a department must include scope of work, impact/outcomes, and timeline. Categories of work should be relevant to the Institutional Effectiveness Report Card, HB8, Theory of Change, Program Effectiveness Scorecard, or other work with demonstrable student-centered impact.
*ADC release time allotted for each department resets annually back to the amount specified by the release time rubric.

Process:
- At the start of the second summer session, allocations of ADC release time for the coming academic year are finalized by each department
- Unused Assistant Department Chair release time allotted to departments is collated by dean area
- Each dean will communicate the total available TPP to respective departments, and conduct a request and justification process through which departments can request temporary allocations from the TPP
- Initial requests for TPP may begin at the start of the second summer session and may continue so long as the pool is available
- On an ongoing basis, the dean will confirm TPP allocations to each department, and update a shared mechanism for public view of these allocations to ensure transparency
