Job Description – Hourly Faculty Advisor

Reports to: Assistant Dean for Faculty Advising
Job Series/Job Family: Faculty Series/Faculty Family
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly position)
Eligibility: This position is available to current adjunct faculty. Hourly faculty advisors may work up to 19 hours per week.

Job Summary

Hourly faculty advisors will complete the necessary initial and ongoing training required to provide appropriate advising to targeted students within assigned areas to increase student retention, persistence, completion, and transfer/transition.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. At the direction of the Assistant Dean in conjunction with the instructional dean, the hourly faculty advisor will:

  • Assist assigned students to navigate degree programs and engage with students in regular review of degree plan progress.
  • Work with assigned students to initiate reasonable and appropriate course substitutions, serving as the point of contact between the student and the department chair.
  • Support students in gaining knowledge of career options as well as appropriate programs and majors here at ACC.
  • Participate in both initial (upon hire) and ongoing training related to faculty advising.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation of advising work (recommendations, interventions, etc.) in the district’s information management platforms.
  • Reply to emails and messages in a timely manner to assist students with course and program selection, schedule development, course substitution requests, etc.
  • Maintain expert advising knowledge of assigned degree plans.
  • Engage in and document appropriate communication protocols (as determined by the Assistant Dean for Faculty Advising) with assigned students in the district’s information management platforms.
  • Gather data and prepare reports on students and advising activities as required by the supervisor and/or other leadership.
  • Connect assigned students to student support services and other campus resources as needed.
  • Participate in the annual evaluation process that is developed for hourly faculty advisors.
