Message from the Chancellor: U.S. Supreme Court Rulings

Dear Students, Faculty & Staff,

I am writing to you today to share important news with you from our nation’s Supreme Court. This
morning, the justices ruled against efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
program. Their decision keeps the DACA program alive and protects Dreamers from deportation. Austin
Community College (ACC) District stands in full support of this ruling.

ACC is a firm believer in equity and inclusion for everyone. As a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation
(TRHT) Campus Center and a Hispanic Serving Institution, ACC is dedicated to providing a safe and
welcome learning environment where all students can succeed. With today’s ruling our students can
continue on their journey without fear and uncertainty weighing over them. To our DACA students,
faculty, staff, and their families and friends — we celebrate with you today.

This week also marks an important Supreme Court ruling for LGBTQ equality. Our LGBTQ community
now stands protected from workplace discrimination nationwide. No longer will someone’s sexual
orientation or gender identity compromise their career goals. ACC applauds this decision and proudly
stands by our LBGTQ students and employees.

I recognize that even with these Supreme Court victories there is still much work ahead for our nation
and community. Tomorrow, the college will commemorate Juneteenth. I invite you to join us for the
conversation hosted by Student Life, the African American Cultural Center, and our TRHT. My promise to
you is that Austin Community College will continue to be an open institution committed to equity and
inclusion and your success.

Sincerely,

Richard M. Rhodes, Ph.D.
Chancellor
Austin Community College District
