Message from the Chancellor: Celebrating ACC Grads

Dear Riverbats,

Our semester comes to an end this week and commencement is upon us. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. This time marks the culmination of months and years of hard work for both our students and employees.

On Thursday, December 8, we will honor our summer and fall graduates. More than 3,500 students have been invited to participate in our commencement ceremony. It’s an evening many students say they never thought would be possible, but they persevered — and I know that you helped them get there.

We’ve grown a lot as a college over the past few years, and I am proud of the work you’ve done to recognize the evolving needs of our students. Our students look to us for more than just learning. Austin Community College District is where they can get academic, personal, and financial support for school and life. This type of wraparound support truly makes a difference.

One of our students recently shared her story with us.

Adriana C. will graduate on Thursday with a degree in Education. Adriana came to ACC as a single mom in the midst of the pandemic. She struggled with confidence and says she wasn’t sure she would be able to make it through. One of her professors noticed and reached out. With a single conversation, Adriana says she felt seen. Her professor referred her to ACC’s counseling services. Adriana got the guidance she needed to stay on track. Now, she will graduate, and she plans to continue moving forward toward her dream to lead a classroom.

I invite you to join me in celebrating Adriana and all our graduates.

Thank you as always for an amazing 2022. I believe 2023 will be another exciting year of growth at ACC, and I look forward to celebrating many more achievements with you along the way.
