“S.O.P.H.I.” (Sherri) Lynn Taylor, was elected as Place 7 Trustee in November 2024. Her term ends in November 2030.

“S.O.P.H.I.” is a native Austinite and graduate of LBJ High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in K-12 Instrumental Music while performing with the Longhorn Band. Her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin focuses on providing positive interactive avenues for students experiencing diverse learning challenges.

She served as a commissioned Personnel Mgmt. Officer, an Education Services Officer, and a Recreation Services Officer in the Texas and Virginia Army National Guard, 1980-1999. At Austin Community College, she is enrolled in the Paralegal studies and an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. “S.O.P.H.I.” is affiliated with austinclubhouse.org, focusing on the strengths and the accomplishments of adults who have been diagnosed with behavioral and/or physical diversity challenges and lifestyles. She is a Registered Travis County Voter Deputy Registrar (VDR), and volunteer with the League of Women Voters, Stjamescmbc.org, a friend of Community First Village and performs line dancing with the Golden Aces of Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center. Her lifetime memberships include Delta Sigma Theta Service Sorority, APO, UTexas-Exes, NAACP, and AAUL.org.

“S.O.P.H.I.” stands for Surpassing Obstacles Propels Hopes Into Endorphins, was elected to the Mueller Neighborhood Association steering committee for 2023-2025. She plays piano with outreach activities at FUMC.org, UUMC.org, austincpc.org, and upcaustin.org.

She is a grandmother of eight, mother of two daughters, and the last of 10 children raised in St. John neighborhood by Beulah Ophelia Groves Taylor Cooper and Austinite Arthur Taylor, Jr.
