Message from the Chancellor: ACC police investigate campus threat

Dear Colleagues and Students–

Austin Community College District (ACC) is committed to the safety and security of our community. I have promised open communication and transparency and want to make you aware of a situation that occurred today, Wednesday, September 18.

The ACC District Police Department responded to a reported threat at the Leander ISD Early College High School located in the ACC San Gabriel Campus. The College takes all threats seriously. Out of an abundance of caution, ACC police convened with the Leander ISD Police Department and Leander Police Department to investigate the credibility of this threat.

There is no indication that the threat was credible. As a result, an emergency alert was not issued. However, in the event of a credible or ongoing threat, I want you to know that the College will issue an emergency alert. Please make sure your Emergency Alert contact information is up to date so you can receive those important notifications. I also encourage you to get familiar with the five action steps you can take if there’s ever an emergency on campus. You can read more about these on our website: austincc.edu/emergency

I know these situations can feel alarming and profoundly impact our students, employees, and their families. Campus safety is our top concern at ACC. We want you to feel safe and welcomed when you are here. Students, please remember the College offers free mental health counseling and support services. Faculty also have access to support services

Thank you for your support to keep our community safe. I encourage everyone to remain vigilant on campus. Any suspicious behavior or concerns should be reported to ACC Police Dispatch at 512-223-1231.

Thank you and much love,
