Starting <strong>September 1, 2025<\/strong>, <strong>Risk &amp; Fleet Management (RFM)<\/strong> will oversee all vehicles used for College business. This means more safety, better oversight, and less work for departments.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why This Matters<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep drivers safe<\/li>\n<li>Protect College property<\/li>\n<li>Lower fuel and repair costs<\/li>\n<li>Make accident investigations easier<\/li>\n<li>Improve emergency response<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re also adding <strong>Samsara telematics<\/strong>\u2014a system with GPS tracking and smart cameras\u2014to monitor vehicle health and driving behavior. These tools focus on safety, not surveillance.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Samsara?<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cameras<\/strong>: Facing both the road and the driver<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sensors<\/strong>: Detect hard braking, speeding, tailgating, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Voice alerts<\/strong>: Remind drivers to stay safe (e.g., \u201cWear your seatbelt\u201d)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system records video only during vehicle use or safety events. Most footage is automatically deleted after about 72 hours unless needed for an incident review.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privacy Matters<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No recording when vehicles are off.<\/li>\n<li>No constant monitoring.<\/li>\n<li>Only trained Fleet or Campus Police staff can access video or data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Purpose: Protection and coaching, not punishment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Department To-Do List (Before Sept 1, 2025)<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Verify your vehicle inventory using the Fleet Vehicle Reporting Form.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure all drivers are authorized (or renew their authorization) between <strong>July 1\u2013Aug 31, 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Help with Samsara equipment installation.<\/li>\n<li>Share this information with your staff.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits for Departments<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No more tracking maintenance or fuel.<\/li>\n<li>Reduced paperwork and admin tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Quick help when vehicles break down.<\/li>\n<li>Access to backup vehicles if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Easier planning and safer driving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Statistics<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 in 5 fleet vehicles is in an accident each year.<\/li>\n<li>Injury-related accidents cost $74,000+ on average.<\/li>\n<li>Nearly 50% of injuries involve passengers or third parties.<\/li>\n<li>With cameras, 60% of claims are resolved in favor of the driver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Sourced from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Fleet Financials, National Safety Council, NETS Benchmark Report<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FAQs<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q: Will departments lose access to their vehicles?<\/strong><br \/>A: No. You keep your vehicles. Centralized management means better care, not less access.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q: Who handles maintenance now?<\/strong><br \/>A: RFM will schedule and manage all service. You\u2019ll just follow notifications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q: What if a vehicle breaks down?<\/strong><br \/>A: RFM has loaner vehicles available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q: Can we opt out?<\/strong><br \/>A: No. This is a College-wide change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q: Are the cameras always watching?<\/strong><br \/>A: No. They record during driving or safety events only.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q: Who sees the video?<\/strong><br \/>A: Only authorized College staff for safety or legal reasons.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Let\u2019s Work Together<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This initiative will only work with your help.
