The Ombudsperson is impartial and does not advocate for one side or the other in a conflict.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Office of the Ombudsperson:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is confidential and no one will know you have spoken with the Ombudsperson unless you give permission otherwise (the only exception to confidentiality is in cases where visitors present imminent risk of serious harm to self or others).<\/li>\n<li>Is independent and informal and neither an office of record nor an office report.<\/li>\n<li>Does not maintain identifying records or participate in formal processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What the Ombuds Can Do<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Listen to concerns<\/li>\n<li>Explore options<\/li>\n<li>Help think through problems<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate communication between parties<\/li>\n<li>Make referrals to other offices<\/li>\n<li>Identify resources<\/li>\n<li>Clarify policies and procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What the Ombuds Can\u2019t Do<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make\/keep records<\/li>\n<li>Serve as an office of notice<\/li>\n<li>Participate in any formal processes<\/li>\n<li>Conduct Investigations<\/li>\n<li>Advocate for an individual or party<\/li>\n<li>Tell people what they should do<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Process \/ What to Expect<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Who Does the Ombudsperson Report To?<\/strong><br \/>To maintain the principle of independence, the Ombudsperson reports directly to Neil Vickers, Executive Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration.
