The master syllabus for a course is a framework upon which individual faculty build the syllabus for their course sections.<\/p>\n
To ensure complete and consistent communication to students, the college has identified items all course syllabi are expected to contain. The goal is to provide all students with clear statements of the course expectations, requirements, and policies that may (among other factors) help them to succeed in class. Having such statements in the syllabus also is critical when responding to student concerns regarding grades or other issues. Many of these statements, particularly those for policies (such as withdrawal), will be consistent across courses and the college; while other items, such as class times or office hours, will vary from section to section.<\/p>\n
There are no specifications about order, arrangement, or style of syllabus items, but faculty may find the syllabus checklist <\/a>useful.<\/p>\n Many of these items are also found in Lighthouse. The latter, however, is a “faculty information utility” and does not contain many of the elements expected in a syllabus.
