Determining accommodations is a collaborative process involving HR, the employee, their supervisor, and other relevant staff.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Is Protected<\/strong><br \/><\/h4>\n<p>Under the ADAA, a person with a disability:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Has a history of such an impairment, or<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is regarded as having such an impairment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <strong>qualified individual with a disability<\/strong> is someone who meets the skill, experience, education, and other job-related requirements of the position and can perform its essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Requesting an Accommodation<\/strong><br \/><\/h4>\n<p>Employees seeking workplace accommodations are encouraged to <strong>contact HR directly<\/strong>. You may discuss your needs with HR without involving your supervisor initially; supervisors will be included later in the process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steps to Request an Accommodation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Submit an Online Request<\/strong> \u2013 Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/benefits.apps.austincc.edu\/docs\/HURE.067.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Employee Accommodation Request Form<\/a>. Provide details about your role, your medical condition, your contact information, your supervisor\u2019s contact information, and your accommodation needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Documentation<\/strong> \u2013 Your licensed healthcare provider must complete the <strong>Employee Accommodation Medical Certification Form<\/strong>, documenting your limitations and expected duration. You may request a copy of the form by contacting HR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Interactive Dialogue<\/strong> \u2013 HR will work with you to explore accommodations that enable you to perform your job effectively while maintaining essential job functions.
