You can choose to enroll in or decline any of the available insurance plans.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enrolling as a New Employee<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New employees can select their insurance coverage \u2014 for themselves and their eligible dependents \u2014 during <strong>New Employee Orientation<\/strong> with the Office of Human Resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When coverage begins:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Health insurance and TexFlex Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA):<\/strong> Begin the <strong>first of the month after a 60-day waiting period<\/strong> from your hire date.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Optional coverages (like dental or life insurance):<\/strong> May start <strong>on your hire date<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Enrollment deadlines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You have <strong>60 days<\/strong> from your hire date to choose health insurance.<\/li>\n<li>You have <strong>31 days<\/strong> to select optional coverages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After that, you can only make changes during the <strong>annual enrollment period<\/strong> or within <strong>31 days of a qualifying life event (QLE)<\/strong> such as marriage, birth, or loss of other coverage. Some coverages may also require <strong>Evidence of Insurability (EOI)<\/strong> when you enroll.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Note<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Employee and retiree insurance benefits are funded by the State of Texas.
