{"id":59,"date":"2017-02-06T16:29:44","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T16:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/offices.austincc.edu\/chancellor\/?p=59"},"modified":"2023-08-02T19:24:23","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T19:24:23","slug":"message-from-the-chancellor-campus-carry-implementation-task-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/offices.austincc.edu\/chancellor\/messages\/message-from-the-chancellor-campus-carry-implementation-task-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from the Chancellor: Campus Carry Implementation Task Force"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our college is working on a very important task, among the most challenging of my<br \/>career\u2014developing a policy and implementing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/about-acc\/campus-carry\/senate-bill-11\">Senate Bill 11 (SB11)<\/a>, Texas\u2019 campus<br \/>carry legislation. The law goes into effect for community colleges on August 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have appointed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/about-acc\/campus-carry\/task-force\">Campus Carry Implementation Task Force<\/a> composed of<br \/>representatives from each ACC campus and key college stakeholder groups. This<br \/>group is working with our constituencies to develop thoughtful recommendations on how<br \/>best to implement the law at ACC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An important part of this process is communication. The task force created a website<br \/>called Campus Carry Planning at ACC to keep you up-to-date on the process. You will<br \/>be able to find the latest information, ask questions, and participate in campus forums,<br \/>which will be scheduled this spring and available to all through live streaming online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The law is clear. It is our mission to abide by the law in a manner that makes the safety<br \/>and security of our community a top priority. We recognize that there are many points<br \/>of view when it comes to this topic. I encourage you to provide input in a brief survey<br \/>that the task force will issue in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you are likely aware, four-year institutions implemented campus carry last fall. We<br \/>are learning from their process, working closely with our community college partners,<br \/>and following legal opinions by the Texas attorney general to ensure we consider every<br \/>possibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am proud of the hard work and success that I see across ACC daily. We have worked<br \/>to create an atmosphere that promotes learning, diverse ideas, and mutual respect. I<br \/>believe this extraordinary sense of community and purpose will help us make<br \/>wise choices as we develop and approve policies and procedures that impact us all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regards,<br \/>Richard M.
